SAFE distributes funding to local nonprofits through a competitive grant process. Funding takes place four times a year. Check back here in middle 2024 for more details on this year’s grant program, application deadlines, and each cycle’s focus.
Very few students in California receive formal financial literacy training, and this lack of education worsens economic inequities as children in underserved communities may not learn the basics about saving, banking, building credit, and budgeting money. This lack of knowledge leaves them vulnerable to making mistakes that can impact them for years. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, financial literacy and the financial stability it helps provide are at the heart of our mission to help build financial freedom.
SAFE will proudly grant one $20,000 grant to an organization whose programming provides financial literacy and financial stability programs to students or adults in underserved communities.

Having an educated and prepared workforce supports a strong regional economy, as well as helps ensure that families earn incomes that help them build financial freedom. But not everyone has equitable access to higher education or work training programs that provide skills that match businesses’ current needs. SAFE seeks to support non-profit organizations that provide programs and services that open pathways to well-compensated and meaningful careers.

SAFE sponsors local events, webinars, and conferences. We give priority to those that align with our pillars of philanthropy. Your organization must be a 501(c)(3) organization to receive funding. All requests must be received 90 days in advance of the event .
SAFE is a strong supporter of higher education, from trade schools and community colleges to universities and advanced degrees. Post-secondary education can empower people to obtain personally rewarding and higher paying careers. Through our scholarship programs, SAFE supports those setting the stage for bright futures.

SAFE will accept applications for the 2024 scholarship program Feb. 14-March 31, 2024. The program is open to graduating high school seniors planning to attend a community college, university, or trade school in fall 2024. The program is also open to current community college students with 60 or fewer units. SAFE will award four, $4,000 scholarships.
